ABOUT ME
ABOUT ME
My name is Orla and I am a Clinical Psychologist based in Galway; presently offering services online only. Within this clinic, I offer psychological therapy to adults, as well as some specific online assessments. During therapy I am likely to draw on various psychological approaches according, in part, to the problem that is being treated and my assessment of what will be of most use (e.g. cognitive behaviour therapy, mentalisation-based therapy, etc). However, having completed my advanced training in psychodynamic psychotherapy I am especially interested in working within this model. Both empirical literature and my own clinical experience offer evidence that in improving our understanding of conscious and unconscious dynamics we can aid resolution of psychological tensions and conflicts. Increasing awareness of how our past may continue to influence our present behaviours and relationship concerns is a core focus of this approach; and helps us to develop new experiences and positive psychological changes.
EXPERIENCE
For over a decade I have worked in a broad range of healthcare settings including public, private, and forensic. I have also previously enjoyed several years of voluntary work with Bodywhys and the Galway Rape Crisis Centre. I am trained to work with people in relation to a variety of psychological difficulties. I believe one of the most important elements of therapy is appreciating the uniqueness of each person and their individual psychological needs. Therefore, my treatment approach is tailored to each individual based on a collaboration between my psychological training and their specific therapeutic goals. I am actively engaged in ongoing professional training opportunities, skills development, and personal development to support and maintain a safe, trusting, and evidenced-based space for clients.
